Why Hermes

And so it was that Hermes came to leave Olympus and descend from the paradigm of myth to occupy an intermediate space and time under the name of Hermes Trismegistus, and sometimes even to come right down to earth, where, as Hermes the god of crossroads and in betweens, he at least seems less out of place than his peers.

Another Metapoem

Wallace Stevens
Disillusionment of Ten O' Clock
The houses are haunted By white night-gowns.None are green, Or purple with green rings,Or green with yellow rings,Or yellow with blue rings.None of them are strange,With socks of laceAnd beaded ceintures.People are not goingTo dream of baboons and periwinkles.Only, here and there, an old sailor,Drunk and asleep in his boots,Catches Tigers In red weather.

Spring beginsand who could deny
hocus pocus,
open sky,ice floe,wild crocus,
history blushinglike a bride,a small stonesewn into her side.
